HP Mini's MIE OS reviewed, lookin' good

This is what I've been waiting for - a good summary of the MIE (Mobile Internet Experience) Linux OS that comes with certain editions of the new HP Mini 1000 netbook. Up to this point most netbooks have been available with a Linux variant as a cheaper alternative to OEM Vista/XP installs. Off the top of my head the Eee PC was the first fully packaged mainstream brandname computer to be sold with Linux as the default pre-installed OS.

However, as a lot of users have found, Linux ain't Winduhs and although slick and simple GUIs can make the interface easy to use, the learning curve for any kind of system level usability can be steep for the inexperienced. This can be seen where the return rates for Linux netbooks are hella higher than Windows machines. Along comes HP with their spectacular Mini 1000, which has a custom Ubuntu build of Linux especially for this machine. The interface is slick, and fits in well with the HP marketing aesthetic.

jkOnTheRun have posted up a video summary of an early impression of MIE. They also have a full hands-on with the machine here.
