EV's rendition of what a 10" Aspire One would look like
The Acer Aspire One is a huge commercial success largely due to its low price and incredibly ubiquitous distribution channels thanks to Acer's well established retailer and distributor network. Acer is able to keep costs down, in part, due to its lack of different models besides color variations, a couple of Hard Drive size variants and recent 3.5G capable models. Although the machine itself is actually relatively well engineered, it has consistently taken second fiddle to the MSI Wind U100 and Asus Eee PC 1000H due in large to its lack of a 10" model. 10" seems to be the magic mark for netbooks, optimizing viewable area without sacrificing portability.
This is set to change in 2009 with Acer planning to release a 10" variant of the Aspire One.
Digitimes is reporting that Scott Lin, Asus Taiwan prez, has announced this model will be launched February or March '09
As an additional piece, Scott added that notebook prices on the whole have been dropping steadily with a 10% decline to be evidenced before the year is out. Acer is releasing notebooks in the 12, 13, 14 and 15" size segments. Maybe we can hold out hope for an 11" netbook in the not-to-distant future?
