Netbook Productivity Tips - Maximizing Viewable Area

I love using my netbook (MSI Wind) for many things but when it comes to editing and viewing lengthy Office documents it can be frustrating with its small rez screen, limited trackpad and less than full-size keyboard. And as amazing as Office 2007 is, it doesn't help the situation by compromising the already cramped 600 vertical pixel netbook screen with its super-huge toolbar.

In my frustration from editing a 30 page document I stumbled upon BrightRev, a well designed software and hardware review site, with some great tips on improving viewability in Office '07 and for other general Windows use. I thought I'd share these below.

One obvious solution is to use the Auto-hide feature of your taskbar. This is activated by right clicking on your taskbar, clicking Properties, and checking the Auto-hide the taskbar box. However, BrightRev takes it a step further with an Auto-hide utility which uses hotkeys or shortcuts to enable/disable Auto-hide.

Also, a very convenient hotkey in Office 2007 is Ctrl+F1 which toggles show/hide of the jumbo toolbar, considerably improving viewability of documents on a netbook screen.

Also when browsing the web you can opt to use Google's new Chrome browser which focuses on providing a maximum viewable browsing area. However, this program is still in Beta at the time of this posting and there are some bugs and incompatibilities. Not to fret though, both Firefox and Internet Explorer users can simply press F11 to toggle maximum viewability modes.
