Update 7 Nov 2008: Svet has now provided me with a modified 1.09 bios that swaps the Fn and Ctrl keys of the keyboard. This download link has been added to Step 2 below.
Recently MSI released the official 1.09 Bios on their website as the only downloadable bios - a big move that shows they endorse overclocking their machines, a feature that was left out of the Wind upon launch. This official bios release has all the features of the beta 1.08 bios (one-button 8%/15%/24% automatic overclocking by pressing Fn+F10 on AC power and increasing available video memory to 128MB or 224MB depending on available RAM) except with a few fixes: namely the Home, PgDn, PgUp and End keys are now functional, the Fn+Insert NumLock key allows you to use the numerical keypad and previous issues with sleep and hibernation have now been fixed.
Naturally, I have received a few requests to create a guide for the 1.09 bios as it looks like a few people are still experiencing some problems using various methods for the update (losing USB functionality amongst other things). I can confirm I have completed the upgrade on my MSI Wind U100 and everything works perfectly! To add to this success the computer actually performs BETTER on the 1.09 bios when compared to the 1.08 beta bios (which actually ran better than all previous bioses to boot!).
Here's my comparison using 3DMark03 on my Wind using 2GB Corsair ValueSelect RAM with the stock 5400RPM HDD;
- Bios 1.08 | Stock score 685 | 24% Overclock score 868
- Bios 1.09 | Stock score 716 | 24% Overclock score 929
Not only will installing the bios give you an approx 5% increase over 1.08 (and even more over older bioses) but enabling a 24% overclock will roughly give you a 30% increase in performance.
Even better scores can be witnessed with faster drives or better quality RAM although I must admit I'm pretty happy with my Wind's performance - the O/C is definitely noticeable in CPU intensive apps like Photoshop. I have been running my Wind at a 24% overclock at times for 20 odd hours straight and it has very little to no errors doing this. However, other Winds (with the same specs) are more comfortable on 15% or 8% so be sure to wean your way up to 24% rather than jumping the gun. However, if you really are trigger happy its unlikely you will damage your Atom by doing so, but if your Wind crashes just take the hint!
The only downside I can see in doing the update is the fan noise appears to be somewhat louder even when not overclocked.
EV's Guide to Flashing the 1.09 Bios for the MSI Wind in Windows XP and Vista
CAUTION: Although this method is proven to be the most successfully consistent, its not a surefire method and those not willing to take the technical risk of temporarily or permanently screwing up their machine should not proceed. Any issues at any step of the guide please refer Troubleshooting at the bottom. I have endeavoured to keep this up to date with the latest fixes to any problems so please go through the troubleshooting section before reporting errors.
However, this is an official MSI release available on their website and therefore they legally must support any issues you have with the upgrade. Thanks MSI!
Pre-update) Before proceeding ensure that you have the latest System Control Manager (SCM) from the MSI support page here. Many users have reported issues such as speedstep not working properly or the unavailability of Eco mode - all fixed by the latest SCM.
Step 1) As flashing the bios is an inherently risky procedure it is important that you are running on AC power and that your MSI Wind battery is removed to prevent any potential power issues during the update. Shut Down your Wind, remove the battery, and boot to Windows on wall power only.
Step 2) Download this package which contains the 1.09 official bios, and a modified version of the winflash utility for flashing your bios in Windows. Alternatively download this package which contains a modified 1.09 bios provided by Svet which will swap the Fn and Ctrl keys on your keyboard so that the Ctrl key is now the utmost bottom left key on your keyboard - Please note this modified bios is not endorsed by MSI and is therefore not subject to their support.
Step 3) To be safe turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and disconnect all peripherals from your Wind. Close any virus scanners or 3rd party firewalls that might inadvertently interrupt or cause errors during the bios flashing process. Program your power button to shut down the machine (rather than standby or hibernate).
Step 4) Unzip the package and create a folder in your C Drive called FLASH. Paste the files from the downloaded package into the FLASH folder.
Step 5) Click the Start button, click Run... and type CMD and press OK. This will launch a DOS-like command prompt in a window. Type CD\ at the prompt to return to the core directory and then type CD FLASH to change to the C:\FLASH directory. Type RUNFLASH to execute the batch file that will update your Bios. Wait patiently for the flash to complete. Once done you will be back at the command prompt in C:\FLASH. Type EXIT. If your keyboard is not working at this stage don't panic, just shut down your computer using your mouse or press your power button.
Step 6) Shut Down your machine and remove the wallpower for 20 seconds.
Step 7) Reinstall the battery and boot your machine to Windows ensuring USB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Keyboard and Mouse are all functioning. Refer Troubleshooting at the end of this guide if you experience issues during this step. If your computer doesn't boot at all (won't display bios flash screen) and you have additional RAM see the troubleshooting section.
Step 8) Reboot your Wind and enter your bios (Press DEL when you see the MSI splash screen) - navigate to the Advanced tab and where it says DOC you can select between an 8%, 15% and 24% overclock. Also make sure Speedstep is set to Enabled as this will allow your Atom to run at a lower clock when idling.
I advise starting DOC with 8% to make sure that your Wind can handle this overclock and work your way up to 24% (1984MHz c.f. 1600MHz stock) if you wish. Users with upgraded good quality RAM (such as Corsair) will be able to achieve a higher overclock setting with stable results.
Press F10 to save and exit the bios.
Once in Windows, and running on AC Power, pressing Fn+F10 should display 'Turbo On' and your Power LED should turn Orange. You are now running an overclocked Wind!
Note: As an added bonus when running on Battery Power and pressing Fn+F10 for Eco Mode you power LED will turn green. So now you can tell whether you are in Eco, Normal or Turbo modes just by looking the power LED color!
Troubleshooting:
- Did you install the MSI SCM as I said above step 1? Download it here and install it - you may have to uninstall your previous SCM first.
- If your Wind doesn't boot try disconnecting all power sources (battery, wallpower) for 20 seconds (preferably more - like 10 minutes) or holding down the Power button for 10 seconds with AC Power connected.
- If you have additional RAM and your Wind won't boot, you probably need to disable Onboard Memory in the bios. You can display the bios splash screen by holding down Esc and pressing the power on button. You will still need to press Del once you see the MSI splash screen. Alternatively try removing the additional RAM module and booting into the bios (press DEL when the MSI splash screen appears). In the Advanced tab ensure that Onboard Memory is disabled then reinstall your additional RAM and reboot.
- Try enabling/disabling AHCI in bios.
- Try pressing F9 in Bios to restore optimized default settings.
- If you don't see the 'Turbo On' icon (as per the pic in this post, except without a fast looking mouse) then you probably need to install the System Control Manager from MSI's support site here.
- Got Vista? Disable UAC (User Account Control) to solve the driver not found issue.
- Bluetooth not going? Try rebooting several times, this reportedly makes it come right in many circumstances.
- Refer MSI Wind Forums if these methods don't work.

Thank you! You are so awesome. I couldn't get the flash drive way to work. But this worked beautifully.
That's hawt! I've been reading about the issues in the forum, so this guide clearly helps cuts through the chaff! :)
Just out of curiosity, how does this increase graphics performance? Does it let you assign more then 64MB of ram to the videocard, or is it simply benefiting from the higher CPU clock?
We need adjustable video ram settings for the Wind! 64MBs isn't enough sometimes.
Thanks for the directions! I upgraded my MSI Wind with no problems at all. I upgraded from 1.06 and I have noticed a definite performance increase even without turbo mode.
Hey guys thanks for the feedback. In regards to graphics performance, since bios 1.07 machines with 1GB of available RAM will operate with 128MB of available graphics memory (as opposed to 64MB) and machines with 2GB of RAM will operate with 224MB of available graphics memory. Obviously this causes a decent increase in performance.
I'd go so far as to say that the MSI Wind U100 running 1.09 bios at 24% overclock is the fastest netbook out there without a voided warranty (overclocking other netbooks outside of using the bios will void warranty).
Of course the Raon Everrun Note might be faster but thats not really a netbook, more of a UMPC.
Does disabling the onboard ram (How much is there actually..duh) impact the overall performance of the Wind? Assuming I have 2gb of ram total.
You probably have 1GB of onboard RAM DDR2 667MHz so if your additional 1GB RAM is faster than this it might pay to disable the onboard RAM. The onboard RAM isn't of the highest quality so might struggle with a 24% overclock also. I am using Corsair ValueSelect RAM 2GB stick in my PC and it runs 24% great! A good, cheap upgrade that I recommend for all Wind owners. See my other posts for instructions on how to upgrade.
Thank you for the guide! I just flashed my bios following the step by step instructions and everything went smoothly. Keyboard did not respond immediately after the patch was applied but a simple shut down with the power button, as advised, solve it. Keep up the good work!!
Great work!
Thanks a lot,

Nice guide ,thank you
nice job ,thank you
Thanks for the guide. Everything's OK, and there's always that tense moment when first firing up the flashed drive. So far so good!
Glad that everyone is having such success with this guide! We must thank MSI for such a great bios release - they have been premium MoBo manufacturers for years whereas Asus has always been at the cheap end so perhaps their experience is showing here.
I love my Wind more than ever!
Everything went fine for me, EXCEPT that I don't have access to the ECO mode anymore when on battery... The LED, which used to turn green stays blue...
Anyone had the same problem ?
pouet: I highly suspect that this is because of the SCM. I have now found it is critically important to have the latest SCM to ensure everything works fine.
Download here: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=utility&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1474
I'll update the guide now.
Humm... Bluetooth is not working, neiter does the webcam. I'll try some new things and come back there.
Well I rebooted, enab/disab the AHCI in the bios, turn OC to 15% and everything seems to work fine now, there is no problem anymore. Thanks for the tips :)
Thanks dude! The tips are great, and my update worked exactly as your notes said it would.
I'm in luck -- I have a very stable system at 24% boost, using a 2GB upgrade (Kingston) installed by my dealer. The unit is an Axioo Pico, Singapore-assembled OEM of the MSI. It's pretty much a replica, less bluetooth, with 6-cell battery thrown in for the price.
Hey mate, thanks for the guide. Everything worked fine, and my system works a lot better now. This is the first time for me to update the bios, and I didn't know there would be so many changes. I still wish the Wind startup time would be a little faster - my system seems to hang onto the MSI Splash screen longer than average. And the recovery thing could be a bit faster too. Anyways... Not major issues really. Cheers!
Woohoo!
Another success story. Great guide, thank you.
Only hitch I had is I was blue screening when I tried to start up after the flash, but enabling AHCI fixed that.
I have just bought the medion akoya. Can i flash teh BIOS with the MSI BIOS upgrade to enable overclock and underclock as the medion does not have this function?
I believe the flash should work with the Medion Akoya and probably most MSI Wind clones so go ahead.
... but what does that AHCI exactly mean?
From what I understand it helps with data transfer between your SATA HDD and RAM. Enable it if you can.
it works perfect!
just follow the steps.
notice that bluetooth will work after 2 reboots.. :)
You mentioned to keyboard may not work before reboot, but mines not working even after a number of reboots! Please help, how can I roll back to a previous Bios? Has anyone got a link to a previous Bios version?
Hessian: Try shutting down your machine, disconnecting the battery, disconnecting AC and leaving for 10 minutes. Also try the other suggestions in my Troubleshooting section.
If all else fails roll back to 1.06 bios using a USB or Bluetooth keyboard. Just use my method but modify the batch file in a text editor to read the 1.06 bios instead of the 1.09.
You are the first person that I have heard of with issues using this method. Are you sure you followed every step to the letter including disconnecting all power sources upon initial shut down as per step 6?
Oh, and don't stress - if you can boot to Windows fine the problem should undo itself once you flash an old bios.
I have the same problem that Hessian, and I wait 10 minutes and i follow with the problem.
I'll try switch to old bios.
Electric! that is the key!
I disconnected the battery and AC Power (simultaneously) and leaving for a few minutes.
Try Hessian and you will make!
Thanks Electric! That was an excellent guide. I upgraded my MSI Wind from 1.05 to 1.09 without any issues at all.
A question. Are you suggesting that the 24% turbo mode works best with the native 1GB RAM turned off?
I'm at 8% Turbo now with the native 1GB only and it seems fine.
I'll be reinstalling the added 1GB RAM later and experiment further.
As you'd expect the RAM included with the Wind by default isn't of the highest quality. Therefore if you overclock this RAM will take extra strain. If you are having issues with a 24% overclock its highly likely its a problem with your RAM rather than anything else. Although I have seen isolated incidents where 24% can't be achieved even with a high quality stick of RAM.
Then again some people can even fluke 24% with stock RAM (not recommended). If you want to go 24% try adding 2GB of good quality brand name RAM and disabling the onboard stuff.
Thank you for the guide. I upgraded from 1.05 on a dual boot OSX/XP Wind. Everything runs fine at 15%. No ECO led on the OSX side but seems to fix an intermittent display issue.
To share and report another failed case.
H/W : U100 w/o bluetooth.
OS : XP Pro + NetBSD dualbooting
H/W changed by myself :
Original WiFi replaced with Intel 3945.
HDD replaced with W/D 250GB
Incident detail ;
1) Unable to use USB Key drive while boot device select and after XP booting.
2) Unable to use Wifi in both OS
3) Fn + F11 makes BT lamp on (Wifi -> BT + Wifi -> Off)
Fortunately, Wired LAN available, so I could roll back 1.06.
I think this may be 1.09 itself bug.
Hi and thanks for this jewel of a site.
You say the downside of the 1.09 bios is that the fan runs louder. Is this always the case or only when overlocking?
I mean if I upgrade my bios, will my fan by louder even if I don't overlock?
bubux: Sorry to hear it didn't work but at least you were able to roll back. One big piece of advice. Try flashing again and if you get the same prob try disconnecting BOTH your battery and AC Power for 10 minutes. This has been shown to fix issues such as the one you are having.
free again: Yes unfortunately your fan may run louder even when not overclocked. Its not a huge difference but I put it down to MSI changing the threshholds at which each fan speed kicks in. This is so they can be overly cautious with cooling and don't have to risk burnt out CPUs from the overclock. At this stage I haven't seen a Fan control app for the Wind which is unfortunate. An alternative would be to open your Wind and install a heat sink and thermal paste on the CPU... this would make it run cooler when overclocked or at standard clock and hence a quieter fan.
After doing this update my 4211 initially worked well. I followed all the instructions and successfully overclocked to +8%. I'd used the machine for a while and rebooted a few times too. Then I upped the OC to +15% and it stopped working. It will no longer boot at all - no screen of any kind. The blue light is on the power, HDD LED flashes once and the battery charge LED is on & I can toggle the wifi LED using the FN shortcut. Other than that the fan is on and the power button will turn it off if held for 5 seconds. Any suggestions?!
dumdum: Try holding down Escape and pressing Power... you should get the splash screen and then you can go in there and set DOC back to 0%.
Alternatively you may have fried your RAM... Try installing an additional stick of RAM in your machine, booting to bios (as above) and then disabling your onboard RAM. reboot and you should be fine. Its highly unlikely you have done damage to your MoBo or CPU at a 15% overclock.
Holding escape isn't making any difference - still no splash screen. I also have an additional 1gb installed already and have tried booting without it but it makes no difference.
I just updated my bios to 1.09 using your instructions. I had to reboot twice to get bluetooth working and windows would not start until I reset the bios to its defaults and then went back after a reboot to overclock by 8%. Thanks very much.
Hi!
Many thanks for the perfect guidelines! Having much more faster Wind! :)
Kind regards,
Viktor Garbar,
Ukraine.
DumDum: Sounds like you've fried something in your computer by going to +15%. Very uncommon but might have been exacerbated by the fact that you are using the MSi bios with an Advent machine (I know they should be 100% compatible but they are not).
Try with another stick of RAM that hasn't been used yet. If this doesn't work and holding Esc while booting doesn't display Bios you may have to return your machine for warranty or repair. Bummer!
everything worked fine and this is the best guide how to update to the newest bios (others recommend using a flash usb drive, or floppy, which is really hard).
keyboard didn't work after the upgrade, but then i removed the batteries and ac power, and this solved the problem.
THANK YOU
I have read this very informative post and as a total newby have a couple of questions:
Can I update the Bios of my Advent 4211 using the MSI file and method described here? and likewise the SCM? If so with the SCM, how do you update this.
stevec: People have had mixed success with the Advent but give it a go. SCM you should be able to use the MSI one - there is a link in the post above.
worked well with my advent.. lost keyboard funcyionality but after tuning power off for 20 sec. it works fine. had no problems overclocking to 24% and all I have is just onboard ram.
Hi - thanks a lot for these guidelines. Very helpfull!
Lost keyboard and bluetooth functionallity as mentioned - but everything works fine now after 2 restarts!
Greetings from Switzerland
Bridget
Thanks EV, worked first time on my Advent! Perfect.
haven't touched the SCM yet though, not sure what to do to update that. I have downloaded the file - what do I do with it??
Cheers!
$350 best buy Q2 model with no bluetooth option.
bios update works great. was having trouble installing 1.09 from the msi website (floppy and usb method) but this way worked just fine. did the latest smc thing before updating. got the keyboard not working thing but followed directions and it works now and the blue screen with error codes but enabled ahci. evidently the new bios by default disabled it and i had it enabled from a previous reinstall of xp (didn't like the way the drive was partitioned). doc at 24% works just fine with stock onboard ram (not ready to void the warranty). helps out with jittery video a little. how do you verify that it really bumps up the mhz/ghz? when i go to general in system properties it still shows as 1.60/1.60. shows 800mhz when speedstep is running and enabled. bumped up max graghics to 128mb vs. 64mb!!! only time i notice any extra fan noise is when turbo mode is enabled. very satisfied. now they just need to adjust the sensitivity of tap click. evidently there's a driver...
CPU-Z is a nice freeware app that will show the speed increase as you go into turbo mode. It can be downloaded at:
http://www.cpuid.com/
Good to hear all the successful updates!
jon: as the post above says - CPU-Z is great and will show you your clockspeed in realtime, including overclocks and underclocks through Fn+F10 or speedstep.
You should disable the tap-to-click. You will have to install the latest Sentelic driver. It should be available on their website but you may have to create an account to login and download (Which is ridiculous). With the 2nd gen Wind I really hope MSI ditch Sentelic. Their touchpads are absolute sh!te!
stevec: The SCM should just be an exe file that you run in Windows (you may need to unpackage from a ZIP file). It is very easy to install.
RUNFLASH ran this command and get this error "is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
mavric: that is a basic DOS error and means you are probably in the wrong directory and the command prompt software couldn't detect runflash in that directory. Make sure you unzip to C:\Flash and are in that directory when you execute the runflash.bat batch file.
thanks for replying, ya, i download the flash from your link and all was good, except the eco mode, not working, no worries im happy, nice tutorial, thanks for the info
well everything was ok, now wifi is not working at all, tried all the tricks, different bios, etc. Nothing. It looks like the wifi card itself is hosed.
well, my wifi was working, however, it has since stopped. Nothing seems to bring it back. I think the card itself might be bad.
well everything was working, however, my wifi seems to be permanently hosed, nothing seems to bring it back. the card itself might be bad, rt 8187.
sorry about the duplicate posts. Not used to using blogger.
hehe fixed it myself. RE-installing the latest scm did the trick, thanks.
Sorry about the panic factor. :)
To anyone having trouble with ECO mode this might help: http://www.intel.com/cd/channel/reseller/asmo-na/eng/203838.htm
Thanks for the cpuid.com suggestion. Nice little app. Core Speed only shows as 800mhz or 992mhz depending on which mode I'm in but I guess that has to do with hyperthreading or something right?
This is fantastic. Thank you very much
followed all instructions for the 1.09 bios update and everything went smoothly! thanks electric for the very informative guide!

Hi, EV. Thank you for this amazing guide. I have a problem though. I can't enable AHCI because everytime I do, it won't boot to Windows. I have 2 gigs of RAM and onboard memory is enabled. I'ts DOC is at 15%. Any thoughts?
jon: this has to do with SpeedStep (enabled/disabled in the bios although I advise everyone to leave enabled unless its causing issues).
Speedstep halves the clock when the CPU is idling thus saving power drain, heat output and increasing battery life. This is partially why MSI endorses overclocking as SpeedStep will prevent the CPU from getting too hot when running at constantly overclocked speeds. Technically it will also increase the life of the CPU although this won't be noticeable.
Make sure you have the latest SCM (as per the guide) as this ensures that SpeedStep works properly - I had issues befoer updating.
If you want to check SpeedStep in action, open an instance of CPU-Z and watch your CPU clock fluctuate between full clock (1.6+GHz) and half clock depending on your computer usage.
Anonymous: This is strange. Obviously stick with whatever works for your machine. I advise disabling onboard memory if you have an additional stick as this can cause some issues even if you have 1+1GB RAM configuration.
hi! =) marc here. =)
Just wondering... having trouble the numlock function. I use my MSI wind to do some accounting work and normally need an external numerical keypad. But whenever I use my external keypad half my keyboard also becomes numerically locked which is a big inconvenience since I still need to input some words. Could you help me out? email me at bluish630@yahoo.com if ever. =) Thanks a bunch! =)
updated my bios instantly with this guide. not a single problem. thanks a lot electric!

Thank you this worked well for me.
I recommend putting an F9 press in the procedure, or at least in the troubleshooting part. F9 sets the BIOS to "optimized defaults."
Hi. Just got a Wind, thinking about updating BIOS to 1.09 before loading OS X. Questions: 1. Are there any disadvantages to 1.09? 2. How do you "program power button to power down machine" instead of suspend etc.? thanks
marc: I've emailed you.
Bruce: Thanks for the suggestion I may put this in as an optional step.
Susanna: 1) Only that the internal fan runs a little louder. I love a near silent machine as much as the next but given the myriad of other improvements (not to mention the overclock feature) there is no reason that I would hesitate to recommend this to all Wind owners.
2) Right click on Desktop, properties, screen saver, power..., advanced, and there should be three dropdown boxes at the bottom of the page which govern the response your Wind gives when closing the lid (I have do nothing), pressing the Power button (I have Shut Down) and pressing the sleep button - Fn+F12 (I have Stand By).
Thanks for the great instructions. I attempted other methods to upgrade BIOS but this one is the one that worked. I do have a problem though. The computer kept shutting down when I tried to load any software, including the System Control Manager (blue screen with white text). Any ideas what might be kicking it off?
Have been running with 24% (1984.2)Turbo Mode on stock ram with no problems since my first post above. Recently upgraded to OCZ2M8002G with no problems after disabling onboard ram. Got a question though. Any idea what PCI Latency Timer should be set to in the bios? Getting a lot of mixed info on this.
To anonymous with Windows not booting after enabling AHCI... The windows install was probably done with AHCI disabled which means if you want to run in AHCI mode you may have to reinstall the OS with AHCI enabled. There are other ways as well. There's a lot of info out there on that one.
Are you going to update your package for the new Wind BIOS 1.0A that just came out Electric?
Same question that statm1.
Thanks!
Update on my earlier dead Advent - It's now back from the techguys who fixed it under manufacturer warranty. Seems the 15% OC had fried my mobo and it needed a new one. Everything's working fine again now but think I'll stick with the 1.08 that it came back with for now!
Electric, Will you go to update your package for the new BIOS 1.0A?
Thanks for this. I've just updated to the 1.0A BIOS using the HP utilities to make a bootable USB thumb drive, a DOS 7 image from bootdkisk and the MSI web site for the BIOS download.
Used the suggestions on this site such as running on AC adapter only. Also had a copy of this site on another PC in case something went wrong!
The whole thing was flawless and I've been running since last night with 8% overclocking, which I'll try for a day or two before increasing.
Thanks for the instructions, particularly the useful tips if something went wrong.
PS My fan is slightly noisier on 8% as it was on 0% overclock but I'm not sure if that is because I was listening out for it.
Fantastic. Works PERFECTLY well. Excellent tutorial. Very many thanks
Fan noise is noticable bigger with 1.09 than it was with 1.06. Even when OC is disabled. I hope in future bios this will be changed;)
RUNFLASH ran this command and get this error "is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
From reply to mavric, i have check that it is in the correct directory, but I did not see the file RUNFLASH. I only have this file FLASH
when i type FLASH, it shows "eafudos EN011IMS.10A /p /b /n /e /x /r" "ERROR:This program must be run in MS-DOS mode"
But I am alreadying running in MS-DOS mode.
Please help with this problem.
Use the package in step 2 Ryan.
Lost webcam . . .
The flashing to 1.09 went fine, did the SCM update prior. USB ports and keyboard work well. BUT . . now i lost webcam. I tried to Enable AHCI, but (as others have noticed) Windows won't boot.
I saw the posts about having to reinstall Windows with AHCI Enabled - could you clarify how to do that - do i Enable it in the BIOS, then shutdown after F10? then reboot for the reinstall? Won't it crash again?
Thanks --adam
HI guys .. i ve got a big problem ...
flashed the 109 bios on my medion akoya .. forgot to disconnect AC (yes, my own "§$A% problem ...)
when i turn the netbook on, i hear , that it is on, but the screen is BLACK...
I hope you have an idea ... thank you in advance
At all i did all steps right.

Thanks for the help bios update via your instructions worked without a hitch. :)
Electric, will you update this tutor for 1.0b bios??? thx before
Just to brag... with OCZ2M8002G installed and 1.09 (not the new 1.0b) I've been getting spikes up to 2004.7 according to cpuid.
Does anyone know if it worth it to upgrade to this new version (1.0b) that's available? Are there any draw backs and will even work? Why didn't they stick with naming it 1.10/1.11? Weirdos...
Can anyone tell me if this update works on the Advent 4211. Im experiencing problems with my 4211 (like freezing up). I have upgraded the memory to 2Gb but still hanging. Please help....
Hi,
ı updated my datron mobee ( msi wind TR version) to the last bios version 10.b just download the new bios from msi web site. download this package too. Edit the runflash file with notepad you will see the bios file name at the end. just change the name with the new bios file. copy the new bios file to the flash folder.
I want to swap Fn key and Ctrl key on my Ideapad S10. How can I swap them? That have Phoenix BIOS.
This method worked great and was much easier than the usb stick method. Just make sure if you loose your bluetooth and camera to reboot twice. I was freaking out for a bit before I read this.
O.K., I had no trouble running through this process. I am running the v1.09 and have played around with the overclock, I don't really have any programs that need that much processing power, but occasionally work with a lot of web browsers. HERE'S THE ISSUE: Two days before I did this I had upgraded my Ram. It was a very noticeable that my programs were loading quicker, my web pages were quickly loading. It was very nice. After I updated the bios that noticeable difference was not very noticeable anymore, even with the overclock. PLEASE IF ANYONE HAS SOME IDEA OF WHAT CAUSED THIS WOULD REALLY LIKE TO GET IT RESOLVED.
I followed the instructions and it all seemed to be ok but I cannot run on battery. The machine is near enough new and worked perfectly before, but now it will not boot under battery power or switches off if I remove AC... I've tried all the "press the power button for 20 seconds..." and removing the battery and AC for 10 mins but still nothing :(
Thank you very much. My Advent 4211-b works great, but how do i get the extra video ram.
It worked! I now have an overclocked Pig. Thanks! Will see if it's stable at 15%, then will try 24%.
Wooooooow! THANK THANKS!!!!! It's WORK!!! Yahooooooooo!
WOW - thanks for this really good advice(s).
I just got my Wind and updated it- no issues tíll now. Trying 24%
CPUM2 shows an incredible increase.
2 questions :
1. how do I disable the internal RAM ?
2. I changed my Windows-Design to "Windows Classic".
But on every new boot: I get the Windows XP task bar , not the traditional windows one.
So thanks for any advice .
Ciao
Mike
Excellent guide Electric.
I flashed the bios via a SD card to version 1.09 with no problems.
Keyboard locked up but a quick restart and there was the new bios.
All of the Wind's functions continued working.
Highest stable overclock with 2GB Corsair DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) was 15%.
Problem is that I can't get my Wind to have a stable overclock to 24% with 2GB of memory as it should.
Any suggestions?
Got my memory here.

Sorry for the double post but never mind.
I read one of your post and I which allowed me to overclock to 24% after disabling Speedstep in the bios.
Hope this helps.
I already dl the latest scm but after I press fn/f10 it can turn to orange Any idea ?
This was much easier than the USB method I read about elsewhere, which totally intimidated me. Thank you! I would also like to know how to disable the onboard RAM. I added the extra 1GB but now see maybe that was a mistake and I should have bought a 2GB stick (plus my new one may not be the best quality, I had no idea!). Seems I've lost my webcam along the way, I'm working on figuring that out.
Also, I cant get the ECO function to work on battery power. I tried the advice mentioned, to no avail. When I go to the links for the CSM download, I cant find it at the MSI site. Could someone point me in the right direction, please?
Much thanks to everyone for all the helpful input! As a newb to this stuff, I really appreciate it.
I figured out one of the 3 issues I mentioned above. I located and reinstalled my SCM app again, now the ECO function is working.
As for the webcam, now Im getting a webcam icon on the desktop when I push F6, push it again and there's a red X on the icon. Does this mean it's working properly now (nothing would happen before, only a sound)? Sorry to ask what may seem like a silly question, I have never used a webcam before I and cant find anything about it on my netbook.
I just inadvertently found how to disable the OnBoard Memory for those wondering. It is also in the BIOS under the Advance tab, same as the SpeedStep, DOC % and AHCI settings.
Great guide. Will try later. Thanks.
HELP! I updated the bios to 1.09 and now my Wireless adapter doesn't appear to be recognized or usable. It was working prior to the update, now its not even recognized...Can someone either show me how to fix this, or give me a link that lets me re-flash it back to the prior settings? (Is that even possible?) this is a pretty new netbook, only a month old and the model # is U120-024US. Thanks to anyone who could help!
Hi there! Thanks! I own a Medion Akoya Mini 1210 (w/XP - Turkish) but cannot proceed with applying the MSI thing as I don't want to have to deal with the issues. Actually I am a computer geek and like such things but for this netbook, I feel too old to do it :D. Anyway, for the Medion Akoya, there is a new BIOS available at http://www1.medion.de/downloads/download.pl?id=6524&type=treiber&filename=bioe1210.exe&lang=uk (or http://www1.medion.de/downloads/?lang=uk) Version number is 1.0B dated 22.04.09. I believe this will help improving the netbook's performance or help getting rid of some minor issues for the Akoya Mini users. Cheers!
This works for my U100 but can it help me to change the resolution to 1024 x 768?
I just flashed with the bios that swaps the fn+ctrl keys. That works but now the Turbo-mode underclocks my CPU instead of overclocking it!
I use CPUz and Prime95 to test where it was previously over 1661MHz, it's now slower with turbo on!
