Acer Aspire One Mods - Bluetooth, 3G, HDD

The Acer Aspire One gets a going over

The Acer Aspire One has been a smash success with its great keyboard, handsome design and ubiquitous cheap price. With the widespread distribution of this netbook comes the array of modders and hackers that want to tweak the machine to their every preference. And luckily for us modders also love to show off their work.

Over at tnkgrl Mobile, 'tnkgrl' has posted up a how-to on modding the hell out of the Acer Aspire One.
  • Part 1 teaches how to disassemble the machine, upgrade RAM and add Bluetooth
  • Part 2 shows how to replace the SSD with a 1.8" PATA Hard Drive and, critically, how to reassemble the machine!
  • Part 3 shows how to add internal 3G to the machine
At the Acer Aspire One user forums there is a great tip from 'trumpeldor' on how to dramatically speed up the AA1 SSD performance with a software mod.

Good to see the netbook modding scene is thriving as much as it ever has been!

UPDATE 6Nov2008: Part 3 is now up on tnkgrl's website showing how to add 3G to the machine (link updated above).

Great post. A lot of useful information here. I’m sending it to some friends j4859C, AT SPSX.
