Oooh, Shiny. The Samsung NC10 netbook definitely isn't the ugliest duckling
It has become clear to me that Samsung, who have just released their now named netbook the NC10, not only hate fat people but also hate all forms of bacteria!
The NC10, which I previously reported on being basically a Wind in a Samsung shell, is being marketed as a stylish alternative to current-gen netbooks. A smart move on their part given it really is the same apart from the style. But I like the style of my Wind thank you very much! Nevertheless the NC10, as you can see, looks great and I'm sure many Samsung fanboys are drooling to get their hands on one.
Specs, as previously reported are identical to the Wind, but XP is the only OS on offer, no Linux model available but I'm sure that won't stop enthusiasts tinkering with different OS's as we have seen with the popularity of OS X on netbooks!
- 10" 1024x600 Screen
- Lightweight (1.33kg with 6-cell Battery)
- 6-Cell Battery for up to 8hours of battery life (yeah right! - maybe 5 hours with moderate use)
- Obligatory Intel 1.6GHz Atom
- All your typical outputs/inputs (3xUSB, 3 in 1 Reader, VGA, BT, b/g wifi, 10/100 Ethernet, webcam etc.
- 80- 160GB HDD
- Unique Anti-Bacterial Keyboard protects you from booger monsters
- Black, Metallic Blue and White colourways available
One feature that was overlooked by others is the Power Button is smartly, located on the outside of the hinge allowing power-on without opening. This would be really useful for users that have their netbooks connected to externals screens, keyboard and mice and want to power on without lifting the lid all the time.
I'm usually really cynical of the 1000h and Wind clones, recommending people go for the proven originals, but subject to further review, this Samsung definitely seems like a good alternative at this Atom-level generation. +1 Samsung.
Editorial update: Viewing the front page of EV I just realised how much this netbook looks like the Sony TZ. A poor man's super-netbook perhaps?
